Honeywell

Honeywell makes the world more rational, safer and more energy efficient!

Honeywell Corporation develops industrial technologies and programs and is on the list of the world's 100 leading companies, compiled by Fortune magazine. Honeywell serves clients around the world by offering products and services in industries such as aerospace manufacturing , specialty materials, and management systems for industrial plants and buildings .

Honeywell is helping to deploy innovative information technologies in aviation, manufacturing and buildings to increase the efficiency of the supply chain and the work of non-personnel.

The Honeywell Story

130 years of innovation

Honeywell's story began in 1885, when inventor Albert Butz patented a regulator and alarm for heating . On April 23, 1886, he founded Butz Thermo-Electric Regulator Co. in Minneapolis, and a few weeks later invented a simple but original device he called the Shock Absorber Regulator.

This device worked as follows: when the temperature in the room dropped below the set, the thermostat closed the circuit and activated the valve. This removed the stopper from the motor wheel, which allowed the crankshaft connected to the main motor shaft to rotate half a turn. The crankshaft chain opened the furnace shock absorber to release air. As a result, the fire became more intense. When the temperature rose to the set parameters, the thermostat signaled the engine to turn another half a turn, thus closing the shock absorber and extinguishing the flame.

The temperature regulation happened automatically. For many years, many Honeywell products have been based on similar but more complex closed systems.

Butz's patents and company were acquired by Consolidated Temperature Controlling Co. Incorporated, which in 1893 changed its name to Electric Heat Regulator Co. The first advertisements, published in 1895, featured the thermostat, which had already become famous at the time. In 1898, the company was acquired by William Richard Sweet, who in 1916 changed the name of the company to the Minneapolis Heat Regulator Company, expanded its range and patented the first electric motor approved by Underwriters Laboratories.

Meanwhile in Wabash, Indiana…

In 1906, a young engineer named Mark Honeywell was engaged in perfecting the heat generator within his plumbing company. Two years later, he founded Honeywell Heating Scecialy Co. Incorporated , which specializes in heat generators for water heating.

The merger - 1927

In 1927, the Minneapolis Heat Regulator Company and Honeywell Heating Scecialy Co. merge to become Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Co. , which becomes the largest manufacturer of high quality watches with precious stones . William Richard Sweet became chairman of the department and Mark Honeywell became president.

The company acquires several companies engaged in the production of control and regulatory equipment. One of these companies was Brown Instrument Co. - world leader in the field of industrial control and measuring devices and indicators.

Activity around the world

Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Co. has long sold its products worldwide through distributors such as the Japanese Yamatake Trading Company. In 1934, the company acquired Time-O-Stat Controls Corporation, which was the beginning of a global expansion.

The first representative office outside the United States was opened in Toronto, Canada. The first European subsidiary - in the Netherlands - was founded in the same year, with offices in London, Trinidad, New Zealand, Argentina and South Africa a few years later.

In 1972, the company already had 25 wholly-owned subsidiaries, 142 subsidiaries and joint ventures in 5 countries outside the United States. In 1993, the company opened branches in Abu Dhabi, China, Oman, Romania and Ukraine. In 1998, it already operated in 95 countries through 83 wholly-owned subsidiaries and 13 joint ventures.

Production, development, acquisition

Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Co. makes full use of its scientific potential and engineering talents to transform and adapt to changing times. Improving mass production, the company's range is expanding with a series of aeronautical equipment.

In 1942, the company produced an electronic autopilot , which played an extremely important role in the US military.

In 1953 he introduced the "round" thermostat T-86, which replaced the massive rectangular model. This is one of the most recognizable designs available so far, adorning the walls of many homes.

In 1954, the company acquired gyroscope maker Doelcam Corp. Over the next two decades, the design of gyroscopes was constantly improved - they became more sensitive and accurate, while at the same time becoming smaller and lighter.

In 1955, a joint venture was established with Raytheon Corp., which was renamed Datamatic Corporation and introduced Honeywell to the computer business . The company's first computer system, the D-1000, weighed 25 tons, occupied 56 square meters and cost $ 1.5 million.

In 1957, the Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Co. acquires a company dealing with fire alarm systems. This is the first of many acquisitions that have led the company to become a world leader in security. In many North American cities, black-and-red patches on windows and Protected by Honeywell panels have become almost as recognizable as the "round" thermostat.

In 1960, Raytheon's stake in the computer joint venture was acquired and the company became Electronic Data Processing (EDP). Officially, the company began to be called Honeywell Inc. in 1963, although it had borne that name for 40 years. Six years later , Honeywell's instruments helped American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin land on the moon.

In 1970, he merged his computer business with General Electric, founding Honeywell Information Systems , which is doing well in the mainframe market.

In 1986, with the advent of personal computers, a joint venture was formed with the Compagnie des Machines Bull (France) and the NEC Corporation (Japan), named Honeywell Bull . Honeywell's share of ownership gradually declined, and in 1991 the company left the computer business . The company's developments in the digital computer field were subsequently used in its traditional specialization - automatic control, integration of sensors and devices in aviation.

In 1986, Honeywell Corporation significantly strengthened its position in the aerospace industry by acquiring Sperry Aerospace, making Honeywell a leading global importer of on-board electronic systems . With the acquisition of Sperry, Honeywell's range expanded with air traffic controllers, spacecraft and the first wind warning system certified by the Federal Civil Aviation Agency.

In 1999, the giant AlliedSignal acquired Honeywell and decided to keep its name because of its fame. The company is headquartered at AlliedSignal's office in Morristown, New Jersey. The companies share common business interests in the aerospace and automotive industries, chemical products, building and enterprise management systems.

In 2000, Honeywell acquired Pittway and gained much of the market for fire protection and safety systems .

In 2002, under the new chairman and CEO of Honeywell , the company was transformed from a company with three competing corporate cultures (AlliedSignal, Pittway and the former Honeywell) into a "single" Honeywell . The company is becoming a global leader in the industry, investing in products, processes, people and a larger presence.

Honeywell is becoming a company that fulfills its tasks, outperforms its competitors and provides 400% of its shareholders' income. Honeywell has over 800 acquisitions and 500 sales during this period.

In 2018, Darius Adamczyk became Chairman and CEO of Honeywell . He joined the company in 2008 and held a number of senior positions, including Chief Operating Officer for a year, then President and Chief Executive Officer. Darius pays special attention to accelerating Honeywell 's organic growth, increasing profits, transforming the company into a first-class developer of programs and industrial technologies , effective capital management and building a culture of highly efficient work.

Honeywell is currently headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina and has approximately 970 offices in 70 states. The company employs more than 110,000 people worldwide, including more than 18,000 engineers and 9,000 software developers.
