The history of SATO
SATO was founded in 1940 as a manufacturer of bamboo, rattan and palm processing equipment. Throughout its history, one of the company's main aspirations has been to constantly increase efficiency and productivity. In 1962, SATO founder Yo Sato invented the manual label pistol . Subsequently, the company became an innovator in the field of price labels and opened new markets when manual labeling devices began to be sought after worldwide.
In 1964, SATO organized the independent production of hand-held applicators and expanded its capabilities by launching the production of consumables for label guns . With the advent of cash terminals in the 1970s, SATO developed new models of hand-held labeling devices compatible with optical character recognition (OCR) and barcodes .
In 1981, the company became known as a leader in marking and labeling solutions in stores when it invented the world's first thermal transfer printer to print checks.
Since then, barcode reading applications have become very popular, simplifying the processes of managing goods in various industries, such as retail, manufacturing, logistics, food and healthcare.
At the same time, two-dimensional (2D) codes , which allowed a lot of information to be stored in a small area, began to be used more and more often. Moreover, with their help, consumers were able to receive information about a product via their mobile phones.
In recent years, RFID technology , which uses radio waves to automatically identify objects, has attracted increasing attention and is rapidly evolving as an advanced method for automatic data recognition.
SATO used its experience in the field of automatic identification, gained over many years of work in the field of barcodes and two-dimensional codes, to develop and market the first-ever RFID printer in Japan in 2003. Today, SATO operates around the world, collaborating with Japanese and international companies to support the development of automated identification systems globally.
Imagine what it would be like if the production was not marked…
If the goods did not have a mark, would they be able to be transported? Of course not. Information is an intermediary between business processes and our way of life. Every day we use a huge amount of information through our mobile devices, as well as scanning products marked with two-dimensional barcodes.
As the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the use of Big Data evolve, more and more Internet-related goods will appear and make our lives easier. But in order for this world to function smoothly, someone has to do the mechanical work at the information processing stage, namely to label the products and connect them to the data management systems. This is where the SATO territory begins.
